Overview

The Cowal Gathering is one of the largest Highland games events in the world, held annually in Dunoon on the Cowal Peninsula in Scotland. Established in 1894, the event centres on traditional competitions in Highland dancing, piping, and heavy athletics, attracting competitors and spectators from across Scotland and internationally.

The programme spans several days, with qualifying rounds and championships leading into the main Saturday event, which includes the Cowal Pipe Band Championships and finals of the World Highland Dancing Championships. Alongside the competitions, the Gathering includes live music, family activities, and a programme of cultural events, reflecting its long-standing role in celebrating Scottish traditions.
